The United States needs to be reminded that Islam is not a religion of hate, but of peace, love, and tolerance.
Don’t like that? I grew up with Muslims. You didn’t.

Hear, hear!
I’ve actually had a couple Opponaunts on here say “You know all Muslims want to kill and destroy us, right?”
Not sure how that doesn’t result in the swiftest of banhammers, but apparently that shit still falls under the protected sphere of “your opinion.”

I think most religions claim they’re likewise religions of peace and love, etc. All I know is all religions suck.

I’m going to call out religion in general as being hateful and intolerant. Islam is no better or worse than the rest. That’s not to say the people who believe in this stuff are terrible people by any means. Good and bad, as with any large group

Every religion has extremist factions which pervert the tenets of that religion, perpetuating hate and intolerance that goes against the very religions they claim to love. EVERY religion. People who refuse to acknowledge that truth about their own faiths (speaking of fellow Christians here) are usually motivated by hate and racism. Key word being racism. They are pathetic, cowardly assholes. They are stifled by their fear, their ignorance and their hate. They are pitiful.
I’m sorry for the racism and religious intolerance you have seen and have perhaps experienced yourself, HB. And maybe it doesn’t mean all that much, but I just want to say that I’m personally really glad you’re here. I’m really glad you take the time to speak with us here on Oppo about your experiences — everything from the kebabs you like to cook, to your sweet kitty cat, to the culture you grew up in. You’re one of the best parts of Oppo.

My general feelings on the matter. It’s tribalism by another name, which has some pretty serious effects on mentality. I’m sure it brings a lot of people a lot of comfort, but I’m fairly certain there’s a point it does more harm than good. Probably sometime during the Crusades.

I don’t think we should ban people like that. Let the racists and bigots out themselves. Make sure them easier to identify.

Oh, for sure. That’s a very large part of why I hate it when mods summarily dismiss those threads or send entire posts to the ether of drafts. I’m a VERY big fan of the idea that sunshine is the best disinfectant. I’m a journalist, after all. :)
But I also think that shit should be reported to the mods for them to properly warn such asshats that they’ll be banned if they don’t cut their shit out.
Let their racism, bigotry and hate be out in the open for all to see. Tell them, very publicly, that their bigotry is unacceptable. And then, if they don’t listen, learn and change, ban their asses. :)

Well yea, once they’ve outed themselves per comments like Duesenberg saw, there’s no reason to keep them around and provide them a platform for harassment/hate speech.

Listen up you beautiful bitches, because I am about to fuck you up with some truth:
We now live in a time where the imperialist infidels are no longer the ones taking radical fundamentalists to task. Maybe the proliferation of social media and the ability to start a viable protest movement go hand in hand now; but it seems as though the Arab nations are more open to publicly criticizing the detractors of their faith and culture.
As horrible as the war in Iraq was, it opened the eyes of a lot of the civilian populace who lived in between the crevices of Saddam Hussein’s boot to what is possible for their people. Many learned for the first time that death brought about by violent subverters was not the will of Allah. Similarly in Afghanistan, a nation born of warfare were re-ignited in expelling the radical Arabs who had moved into the country in the 80s and 90s and oppressed the Pashtuns of Afghanistan.
All that said, this was an amazing and touching statement about expelling the hate from Arab and Muslim culture. Leave it to the millennial generation in the UAE, Jordan, and Saudi to not be lazy and take subversive, radical jerks to task.

My argument is that essentially every major religion has a history of violence somewhere in its timeline.
brianbrannon

I understand exactly. You are saying it’s okay for Islam to be violent because other religions were violent. That’s not a valid argument.
Dusty Ventures

06/01/2017 at 18:42 | 0 |
You are making false assumptions, sir, that’s not what I’m saying at all. I’m saying people pretend Islam is the only religion with a history of violence and it isn’t. I don’t condone violence in the name of any religion, I’m just pointing out that they all have blood on their hands.
brianbrannon

06/01/2017 at 20:58 | 0 |
Ah, then you replied to the OP that Islam is bloody and violent just like some other religions?
Dusty Ventures
> brianbrannon
06/01/2017 at 21:39 | 0 |
No. Just because a religion has violence in its timeline doesn’t mean the religion itself is bloody and violent. That goes for Christianity, Islam, paganism, Hinduism and all the others.

So if being bloody and violent doesn’t make a religion bloody and violent then no religions are violent?
